Peter Connell has finished the 2013 Competition Field Show. Entitled - "HOME" - it promises to be one of the most visually innovative and musically beautiful shows that he has created. Look for more about "HOME" in the coming weeks. 


Staff Updates:

Paul Connell has taken on the role of Visual Caption Head for the 2013 season. Paul has been the Percussion Caption Head for the past 10 seasons. His background in education, constant research in the advancement of DCI Drum and Bugle Corps and the knowledge gained director of a WGI class Burnsville High School Drumline will go a long way to helping the band develop it's visual style. 

Dan Mangold will officially be the Percussion Caption Head for the 2013 season. Dan has served as Percussion Instructor this past year.  We are all looking forward to his new role with the POD Drumline.

GUARD COACH NEEDED!
Would you like to become a part of the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching teaching staff?  We are looking for a Guard Coach for the 2013 marching season.  A strong willingness to supervise and guide 24 wonderful high school girls is the main requirement.  Days and hours are somewhat flexible but mornings (7:15am to 8:45am) are vital.  This is a paid position.  If you or someone you know might be interested please contact Steve Connell (sconnell@moc-fv.k12.ia.us or 712-737-8197ext 237)

Marching Band Staff

 

Steve Connell has been the director of the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band since 1975. In addition to his marching band duties he directs the Symphonic Band, the Pep Band and teaches two music courses through Northwest Iowa Community College. He received his BA degree from Luther College and a Masters in Music from the University of South Dakota.

Kevin Linder is Assistant High School Band Director. He serves as Assistant Marching Band Director, Jazz Band Director and Concert Band Director. Kevin, a 1977 graduate of Morningside College, taught in the area as a successful teacher at Anton-Oto High School, Eagal Grove High School, and a variety of Sioux City schools including East High School and North High School before coming to MOC-Floyd Valley.

Dan Mangold is the Assistant Marching Band Director for the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band. In addition to his duties with the high school band he is the Director of the MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School Instrumental Music program. Dan is a 2010 graduate of Northwestern College and previously was the Director of Bands in the Sioux Central school district.

Peter Connell is the Show Designer/Music Arranger and the CEO of Innovative Marching, Long Beach, California. Peter personally writes all of the music and drill for the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band competition field shows. Peter is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Masters Degree in Trombone Performance from Azuza Pacific University. Peter is active as a studio musicianin the Los Angeles area, the lead trombonist for the Disney Band, and the trombonist for 3Brass.

Paul Connell is the Percussion Arranger. Paul, a graduate of MOC-Floyd Valley and the Pride of the Dutchmen Band, attending the University of Iowa where he played for four years in the Hawkeye Marching Band Drumline. Paul currently teaches 10th grade English in the Minneapolis suburban Burnsville Senior High School in Burnsville, Minnesota. In addition to his teaching duties he is the Director of the Burnsville Winter Drumline (2 time MPA champions) as well as the Assistant Director for the Burnsville Blaze Marching Band.

John Spellan is the Guard Designer. During Band Camp John teaches all guard routines and drill. John lives in Chicage where he just graduated with a degree in Visual Design. In addition to his work with the Pride of the Dutchmen, John teaches guards in many Chicago area high schools.
