RE:        Adopt-A-Uniform Campaign

We need your help! For over 50 years the members of the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band have been marching down the street wearing wooden shoes and Dutch costumes.  The years of use have taken a great toll on the uniforms.  We have replaced some and fixed most of them, BUT CURRENT BAND MEMBERS ARE STILL WEARING THE SAME UNIFORM THAT YOU WORE BACK IN YOUR “GLORY DAYS”!

The uniforms that we wear are some of the best built uniforms in the country.  They are also the most expensive band uniform made.

The decision has been made to purchase new FIELD UNIFORMS for the band.  The FIELD UNIFORMS will be used for all home football games and all of the competitive field marching events that the band attends in the fall.  The current DUTCH UNIFORMS will be kept and only be used for the Tulip Festival and street parades.  Why are we buying new field uniforms and not new Dutch costumes?  Simply put—a complete field uniform will cost $275 while a complete new street uniform would cost $550.  We can purchase new uniforms for the field and minimize the wear and tear on the Dutch costumes. We hope that we can accomplish two goals with one purchase—and I think that we can—but only with your help.

By law, the school board is not allowed to purchase band uniforms.  Consequently, as part of our fund raising
effort we have created the “ADOPT-A-UNIFORM” campaign.  We are asking for financial support by pledging one of the amounts on the enclosed pledge sheet.

In appreciation for your generosity, we will run a block ad in the 2008 (and following) Dutchmen Field
Championship program listing you as a contributor.  In addition, individuals that adopt a full uniform will have their name placed on the inside of the uniform being adopted. This is a big project because we have a big band.  We need to raise over $40,000 to complete the project.  Your support is vital to the continued excellence of the POD.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.  I look forward to hearing from you.
